After our client intake, kickoff, and preliminary research, we have our designers fill out a Designer Discovery Comprehension Questionnaire to ensure that they have a thorough understanding of the client, the industry, and the project.

We also ask specific questions related to user experience patterns and content on competitor websites that the designer should be able to answer after preliminary research.

This has been a useful document for helping our designers take time to reflect on the client and the problem at hand before diving into any implementation work. It's also been great for surfacing any confusion or misunderstanding about what a client does and what they're hoping to achieve.
