Zuma 62mm X-Series IR720 Infrared Filter
Product details
This X-Series IR720 Infrared Filter from Zuma passes infrared light while completely blocking other wavelengths of light in the visible spectrum. Unlike the eye, silicon- based CCD and CMOS image sensors have sensitivities extending into the near-infrared, which may extend to 1000nm. Digital cameras are typically equipped with an IR-blocking filter to prevent unnatural-looking images. IR-passing filters, or removal of factory IR-blocking filters from the camera, are commonly used in infrared photography to pass infrared light and block visible and ultraviolet light.
This IR filter easily screws onto a standard 62mm filter thread, blocking UV and visible light in the spectrum up to 720nm. While appearing black to the human eye, it transmits infrared light through to the IR sensitive image sensor. When taking pictures interesting effects can be achieved, since infrared is actually heat, so living subjects that transmit or reflect heat will appear to be bright. Infrared photography opens up a whole new way of looking at the world aside from conventional visible light.
